PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Timothy P. Collins is Of Counsel at the Massachusetts offices of Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP, with his primary responsibilities pertaining to the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications. Tim has technical expertise in various different areas including semiconductor devices and device fabrication processes, digital and analog circuits and systems, software, medical devices, clean energy technologies, and general mechanical devices and systems.

Tim earned his Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in 1987, and his MBA from Bentley College in 1993. In 2006, Tim completed his legal studies earning his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School and also receiving the prestigious Jurisprudence Award.

Tim has over 15 years of technical experience from employment prior to entering the field of intellectual property law, holding key hardware engineering, product management, and sales positions with established pioneers such as Digital Equipment Corporation, Bolt, Beranek and Newman, Inc. (BBN ), and two start-up companies, VideoServer, Inc. and Pingtel, Corporation. His prior experience allows him to prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications across a range of technical concentrations, including software and business methods, semiconductor devices and device fabrication processes, digital and analog circuits and systems, computer hardware including microprocessor architecture, medical devices, optical devices, radiation detection systems, and general mechanical devices and systems. Tim has also participated in intellectual property due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other financing events.

Tim began his law career at a Boston-based law firm, where he prosecuted domestic and foreign patent and trademark applications and assisted clients in various intellectual property matters. Tim joined Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP in 2013 when his previous firm, Guerin and Rodriguez LLP, joined forces with Schmeiser, Olsen & Watts LLP. Tim has bar admissions with the Massachusetts State Bar, the Federal District Court – 1st District, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
